Huawei’s nova Y61: The Gift that Keeps on Giving

Huawei’s latest smartphone, the nova Y61, is reinventing budget devices.

The nova Y61 was released in November 2022 and has since been captivating consumers across the globe thanks to its stunning specs and affordability.

This device is designed to be a showstopper. From its shimmering outside to its impressive 50MP camera, it seems the only thing more impressive is its price tag.

Design Details 

The nova Y61 is available in two colours here in SA - Mint Green and Midnight Black, with a glitter effect added into the mix.

The 6.52-inch LCD screen offers HD+ resolution and is the perfect size for a comfortable grip. The side-mounted fingerprint scanner for security is also a nice touch, as we all know that in-screen scanners aren’t always 100 percent responsive.  

With the nova Y61 you get 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, which you can expand by adding a microSD card.

Camera Quality 

At the front you have a 5MP shooter for slick selfies. While it’s not the top of the range on the market right now, the results are great – exactly what we’ve come to expect from Huawei devices.

It’s kitted out with the Super Backlit HDR feature which allows you to take incredible pictures in any lighting. Whether the sun is behind you or in front, you’re always the one who shines.

Huawei also has your nights covered thanks to the Super Night Shot feature, which ensures all your night time shoots are crisp and clear no matter the lighting. 

But the it’s the main camera that brings the pizazz.  At the rear is the highly rated AI triple camera with 2MP depth and 2MP macro lenses to really enhance your photography experience.

Video is just as impressive. You can shoot in 4K, keeping up with some of the high-end smartphones out right now. The inbuilt stabilisation feature is perfect of catching video on the move, while the slow-mo effect can be used to capture the finer details of your adventures.  

Battery Power

The 5000mAh battery on the Y61 is on par with its popular competitors and comes with the added benefit of 22.5W supercharging capabilities.

The nova Y61 also lets you adjust your screen to save power or adjust brightness depending on what you’re doing, like scrolling, watching videos or reading.

Get Social, Again 

Huawei’s in-house App Gallery has come a long way since it originally replaced the Google Play Store.  You can once again download your favourite social apps like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp on Huawei devices.

5G, No-go 

Unfortunately, the nova y61 does not have 5G capabilities. You’ll still be able to get online without hassle using 4G, which is still a pretty quick connection. But thanks to its many other impressive specs, the lack of 5G is not something that will stop you from loving this device.
