The iPhone Duo is only due to arrive in selected markets during October, while the latest Huawei, HONOR, vivo and OPPO devices still need confirmed South African launch dates.
In other words, an announcement online does not necessarily mean there is stock at your nearest store.
Apple iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
Apple has taken a premium-first approach to the iPhone 18 generation. Instead of launching a standard iPhone 18 alongside the Pro models, the company has led with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Apple iPhone Duo: Apple’s First Foldable iPhone

When opened, the book-style device offers a 7.6-inch inner display. When closed, users get a compact 5.4-inch outer screen. It also runs on the A20 Pro chip and introduces a version of iOS 27 designed for the larger folding display, including side-by-side multitasking.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8
The Galaxy Z Fold8 256GB weighs 201g, making it Samsung’s lightest Galaxy Z Fold to date.

The extra spend makes sense for users who will regularly use the larger screen and advanced camera. For everyone else, the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 is likely to offer better value.

Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design
Huawei’s Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design takes foldable technology a step further with a tri-fold design. It starts at CNY 19,999 in China and runs on Huawei’s Kirin 9050 Pro chipset and HarmonyOS 7.
Key features include a privacy-focused inner display, Huawei’s latest XMAGE camera technology and satellite communication support in China. It is impressive engineering, but not yet a straightforward South African purchase.
There is currently no confirmed local release date. The Chinese model also does not include Google Play Services by default, so app compatibility especially banking and work apps must be checked carefully.

HONOR Magic9 Series
HONOR is due to unveil the Magic9 series in China on 28 September 2026. The brand has already teased its ARRI-developed cinema features, LogC3 video workflow and dual 200MP camera system.
These features place the Magic9 range firmly in premium camera-phone territory, but several specifications circulating online have not yet been confirmed. South African availability is also still unknown.
HONOR already sells smartphones locally, so a future release is possible. Buyers should still wait for an official South African announcement.
vivo X500 Series
The vivo X500 range is expected to focus heavily on photography and video. Confirmed details for the Pro models include a ZEISS-developed main camera and support for 4K slow-motion video at up to 240fps.
As with the HONOR range, the initial launch is aimed at China. A South African release date, local pricing and network availability have not yet been confirmed.

OPPO Find X10 Series
OPPO has confirmed that the upcoming Find X10 Pro Max will use MediaTek’s 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro chipset and is intended for international markets.
Rumours point to major camera and battery upgrades across the wider Find X10 range, but those details should not be treated as final until OPPO completes its launch announcement.
