Samsung Galaxy A22 Review
The [Galaxy A22](https://www.mondo.co.za/devices/samsung-galaxy-a22) has landed in SA! For die hard Samsung fans, the release of the A22 is further proof that there is an awesome A series option for everyone. __Under the Hood__ The Galaxy A22 is being touted as the natural upgrade to last year’s A21, however, thanks to some across-the-board additions, the A22 is actually closer to the A32 in terms of performance. Like the A32, the Galaxy A22 is powered by the Mediatek Helio G80 (12 nm) chipset which makes switching between apps a breeze. The device comes standard with 64GB storage space and 4GB RAM. The A22 also boasts a 720p Super AMOLED display and an impressive refresh rate of 90Hz – the same refresh rate as its more high-end A series predecessors. __Screen and Body__ The screen size on this device sits at a compact 6.4 inches. While not the largest out there on the market right now, it still brings a lot of bang for its buck, giving off vibrant colours and a brightness level of 600 NITS. The A22’s outer body is equally solid. The plastic frame has a nice glossy finish at the back and coupled with the glass screen, gives off a very premium vibe. Available colours seem to fluctuate per country, but South Africans will likely have a choice of Black, White, Mint and Violet to choose from. The camera is embedded in a slightly raised island at the back of the phone casing. Unlike the [A32](https://www.mondo.co.za/devices/samsung-galaxy-a32-64gb-awesome-black), [A52](https://www.mondo.co.za/devices/samsung-galaxy-a52-128gb-awesome-blue) and [A72](https://www.mondo.co.za/devices/samsung-galaxy-a72-128gb-awesome-black), which all have in-display security access, the A22 has a more responsive side mounted fingerprint scanner, which also acts as the device’s power button. The A22 only has one speaker, located at the bottom of the smartphone, which doesn’t make for the loudest playback, but this isn’t a major detractor. __Camera__ As with most Samsungs these days, the A22 comes equipped with Quad camera capabilities. The main camera is a 48 MP complete with the nifty Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) feature which helps with reducing blurring in both pictures and video. Other cameras include an 8 MP Ultra-wide, a 2 MP Macro, 2 MP Depth and a 13 MP Selfie camera. Images taken in the day shine with natural colours, while night mode produces quality results too. __Battery__ The A22 possesses a 5000 mAh battery and has the added bonus of the 15W fast charge feature, making this both an affordable and appropriate buy for those on the go. __Verdict__ Despite being billed as the “budget” option the A22 is equally notable as the other 2021 Samsung releases and is sure to become a budget-friendly bestseller.
